Coffee filter dress completed. Well, I guess it's more of a skirt. Either way it doesn't matter, cause my friend Jade took photos in it! They turned out great! Thanks Jade.

Check me, out...sewing with a machine. This wasn't easy. I had to pull a jersey skirt through the sewing machine and sew the coffee filters in one by one, cause it was much faster that pinning them. Almost done. I'll post photos of someone in it soon.

Dress

So I am taking a class called The Figure. It's all figure drawing, but our final is to create an article of clothing made from some sort of unconventional material. Very Project Runway. So I got all these coffee filters, opened them up, then watercolored them. I need to do about twice as much and then I will have enough to make a skirt. This is what I have so far.

Creatures

So in The Tempest, these strange creatures come out of the woods. I took that literally and I have some creatures who are more stick based and ones who come from the water. Here are some early ideas.

More Ariel

Thesis sketches

I've been focusing on the character of Ariel. Men have played the character, women have played the character. In the play Ariel is a tree, a person and a harpy. All of this to me suggests shapeshifting and the gender of the role being different depending on the production supports that in my eyes. Well, I have yet to design Ariel as a woman but here are a few sketches of Ariel as male, a harpy and a child. I like the idea of Ariel appearing as a child. I think it's creepy.
